Settle. A bustling market town
The market town of Settle is located in Ribblesdale, at the southern edge of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, within a few miles of the Three Peaks and is part of the parliamentary area of Craven (Skipton and Ripon). Its market charter was granted in 1249 by King Henry III. It has local bus connections to Skipton in the south and Lancaster in the north. Northern Rail connects the town to Leeds in West Yorkshire and, notably, the Settle-Carlisle railway connects it to Carlisle crossing the stunning landscape of the National Park. The A65 connects it to the Lake District [how far] and southward to Skipton and West Yorkshire. Apart from easy access to the reason there plenty of reasons to stay put in this bustling town.
Shopping and banking
Settle is served by a wonderful Booths the Grocer, a Coop, various convenience stores, and numerous independent shops providing food, fruit and vegetables, flowers, books, clothes, bathrooms, kitchens, interiors, carpets, hardware and gardening. Settle has everything.
The town no longer has any bank branches. However, there is a branch of Skipton Building Society, an independent post office, several free cash machines and a number of the banks provide visiting services.
And let's not forget it has Craven's oldest butcher Drake and Macefield and the legendary Ye Olde Naked Man bakery and café.

Eating and drinking
Settle has an array of diverse pubs, bars, cafes, restaurants, coffee and t-shops:

Settle Area Swimming Pool
50 Years ago saw the grand opening of Settle Area Swimming Pool, a lovely 20m pool as you leave Settle for Giggleswick. The water was strewn with flowers and there was great excitement.
Today, the premises have been modernised and extended to include a fit space, a gym and café.
Settle benefits from a thriving branch of the U3A which aims to 'encourage, enable and facilitate local people no longer in full time employment to keep their minds and bodies in good order through learning, exercise and enjoyment- to learn, laugh, live!' It has around 40 cultural, physical and fun interest groups.

Local schools
Settle is served by Settle Primary, Settle College and Giggleswick (private) schools.
